Serj Berelson, Google/Nest
Serj Berelson is Manager of Energy Regulatory and Governmental Affairs for Nest Thermostats at Google, which includes the Nest Learning Thermostat and Thermostat E. In that capacity he is responsible for relations with the Federal and State governmental energy agencies in the Western U.S., and is the policy lead for Nest’s low-income Power Project initiative.
Serj has spent eight years building his career in the energy sector. Prior to Nest, Serj was the Manager of Regulatory Strategy at the residential energy storage firm Sunverge with a focus on developing storage policy across the U.S. Prior to that Serj spent five years at Opower; as a Senior Regulatory Analyst his focus areas included low-income energy efficiency, as well as Western US and Canadian regulatory policy. Serj began his career in the Policy & Planning Division of the California Public Utilities Commission, and received his MA in Economic & Social History with a focus on Environmental Economics from the University of Edinburgh, Scotland. He was born and raised in beautiful Northern California, and currently resides in San Francisco.
