Al Nagel has over 55 years of experience in the electricity industry encompassing roles from lineman to management with Alberta-based companies and cooperatives, most recently serving to date as CEO of the AFREA since 2008.
Al has contributed to numerous industry committees, panels, and hearings offering a broad, well-informed, and reasoned perspective on the electricity industry. His years of industry experience supports significant input into policy and procedure development with previous companies, but specifically with the AFREA over the last 15 years. As a team leader, Al works closely with the AFREA Board of Directors and his administration staff to manage operations of the million-dollar umbrella cooperative effectively and efficiently.
His work with the Alberta government representing rural electrification associations and the overall sustainability of rural Alberta, earned him a nomination by the Ministry of Affordability & Utilities for the Queen’s Jubilee Medal in February 2023.
